Every time I went to Hawaii (for work) I ended up with a damn Prius to rent. You’d probably only have to fill one up twice a year there I guess.

I’m honestly incredibly freaked out by roaches and I camped on Oahu so I’m ok with never going to Hawaii ever again. Certainly not without a flamethrower.

When I was there we drove a 1986 dodge shadow that was well past it’s glory years but blended in with the local crowd really well. Scary as all get out coming down the mountain tho, I used engine braking as much as possible as those old dodge brakes were not the best.

I camped on the big island in a few places and was surprised by how there were basically no bugs: just a few tiny flying ones.

Our guide book for the big island strongly recommended 4WD, so we got the 2DR JK Wrangler. I took it mudding to the green sands beach and had fun in a car for the first time in my life.
